2015 Annual Auction! HUGE SUCCESS!

This year's auction has just wrapped up! Packages are packed, and waiting to be shipped!  I'm pretty sure this was our biggest auction yet, with over 100 items, and close to 1000 bids! We had more than 4,000 clicks on our Facebook page.... and lots of new likes!  Thanks so much to all of our donors, and to all who placed bids and shared the auction!

We raised around $4,000!

AMAZING!  Thanks, folks!

Long time... New Happenings....

I haven't posted here in a while, since we have joined forces with Encourage Africa a registered 501c3 non profit.  We are well on our way to wrapping up the Holiday Project this year, and have just $2,546 left to raise to cover all aspects of the festivities.  If you are so inclined, donations can be made here directly to me, (the fastest way to get them to me...) by clicking the DONATE button on the right side of the page. If you NEED a receipt for tax purposed, you can donate through Encourage Africa, by clicking Donate and putting GENNA in the designation field.

We would love to be able to cover the remainder of the years tuition for our boarding school girls...

To help Alem get on her feet with the opening of her own small cafe...

To celebrate with our sponsorship kids and their families on their amazing progress this year!

And of course to provide sheep for Genna dinners as we have in the past.

If you can help, it would be appreciated.

Summer Internship Auction... A HUGE SUCCESS!

Thanks so much to all who donated, placed bids, shared the info on Facebook, and said a few prayers that we would make our goal! The goal has been met, apartment has been rented,  tools, supplies and tickets have been purchased! I will be flying out on July 1st to meet with the girls and their summer internship mentors, and get the project set up! I'm so excited to see them, teach them, and love them for two weeks! I hope that during this time, they will learn some great new skills, develop some wonderful relationships with their mentors, and be able to create some great items, that they can offer for sale both in Ethiopia and here in the US.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Donations for Displaced AAI Staff...

AAI Friends and Family!
You have probably heard recently that Adoption Advocates International, out of Port Angeles, Washington has closed, leaving around a dozen employees high and dry in Ethiopia. They have been working for months with no pay, and will not receive any type of severance due to them by law.
I have agreed to take on the fundraising for the displaced AAI staff in Ethiopia. A few of you have already sent in donations! Thanks so much! My friend, Karleen Klopp (fellow AAI adoptive parent), has offered to carry the funds to Ethiopia, when she travels the first week of April. She and her husband Lance, run Encourage Africa, a 501(c)3 non-profit.  I am on the board there, and they have graciously agreed to accept donations on behalf of the AAI staff.  If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation online, please make it through Encourage Africa. There is a transaction fee on these donations, of 2%, which is slightly less than Paypal. Susan and I have friends in country who will be in charge of distribution of the funds, and issuing receipts. This donation will not be affiliated with AAI, other than to help the workers who are affected. It will go through a 3rd party, who I know and trust to get to the right people.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me! I know that we will probably not raise all that they have been shorted, but what we do raise will be a huge help for these workers and their families.  You have no idea what this act of kindness will mean to them.

Please visit Encourage Africa and click the Donate tab.  Put in your donation amount and Continue.  When you get to the donation page, put in your credit card info, and  “AAI Staff” in the designation field.   You will receive an email receipt.

If you would like to send a check, you are welcome to mail one to me, made out to my church, FSBCJC, and they are happy to run them through and send tax receipts at the end of the year. All donations will end up traveling to Addis Ababa with Karleen.  Email or message me for the address.

Thanks so much for your support!

YOU Made IT Happen!

I know I should have posted this 2 months ago, but I am guilty of neglecting the blog, because FB is so instantaneous, and I can post it all there and it is seen within minutes... I apologize.

I did want to say a HUGE THANK YOU! to all who donated and helped out the project by collecting needed items and spreading the word! We somehow managed to rock it again this year, and collected all of the funds and items we needed. We were able to provide two families with grants to start their own small businesses and help themselves out of the despair of poverty.

It was a great project this year! And you made it happen! Check out our Facebook page for more info!

Giving Thanks...

Most of us tonight, are sitting, with hearts and bellies full from today's celebration of Thanks. We all have so much to be thankful for, no matter what our circumstance. On days like today, it is especially important to remember those who are away from their families, or whose feast might not be all that we think of when we think of this day. My thoughts go daily to Ethiopia... to the children I've fallen in love with in orphanages, and on the streets...to the friends I've made on my journeys and to our sweet kids in the sponsorship program. Today, though, I give thanks for you. I am humbled and grateful for all of you who step out in faith and make this life better for those in need. For a child half-way around the world, in a place you may never go. To give Hope, is one of the greatest gifts a person can give. For each donation to the project, for every prayer, you offer the hope of a better future. I thank you for your continued support of our programs.

With just 26 days left till' Christmas, we are still a long way off of our goal for this years project. I received only $50 this week towards our goal of $9,120. We currently have $5,750, and need to raise $3,370.

$1,220 of that will cover the remainder of the tuition for our 5 girls in boarding school.

The other $2,150 is what we still need for our small business grant. This years grant will be benefiting two very deserving families. One of the families consists of a father, mother and 4 older children. They have stuggled through the years, and the children are very far behind in school. The parents have both been without work for a long time, and could really use a hand up to get back on their feet. They are hard working people, who would love the opportunity to start a small injera and bread baking business to bring in much needed income to their family.

The second family is an older sister taking care of her 4 siblings (both parents are deceased). Kidist the oldest, was left disabled after contracting polio as a child. She operates a small shop where she does hair braiding, but she struggles to put food on the table and keep the kids in school. She would love to be able to expand her tiny shop and bring in more business for her family.

This small business grant is more than just handing over funds to someone. It's investing in their future. I'm so excited about this portion of the project.

If you have not already made your donation for this years project, I hope that you will help us make our goal.

Below is the breakdown.

The Countdown is ON!

Can it really be ONLY 36 days till' Christmas?!?!

We had a pretty good week in our Holiday Project Fundraising efforts... In the past week we have brought in $1,925... Which brings our total so far to $5700! That still leaves us with a little over $3,000 to raise in the next 5 weeks... but I'm pretty sure we can do it!

In addition to raising the last bit of funds, I am in serious need of backpacks. If you can supply a backpack, or if your child's class would like to do a backpack drive, let me know! I would really like to be able to deliver the one thing Kidane Mihret has asked me for. I would also like to supply each of our sponsorship kids with a new backpack.

Looking for a gift idea????

For that person on your list that has 'everything', I still have 10 2014 wall calendars available...

For a $50 donation, I would be happy to send one out to your loved one with a card saying that a donation has been made in their honor to make the holidays brighter for orphans in Ethiopia... Contact me with mailing info, and to check on availability.

For a $35 donation, I can mail a card saying that a donation has been made in your loved ones honor to make the holidays brighter for orphans in Ethiopia... Contact me with mailing info.

6 Week Update!

Okay, friends... This is where we are with the Holiday Project. With just 6, Yes, SIX, short weeks till' Christmas, and still a little over $5,000 to raise to make this years Holiday Project a success, we need to kick our fundraising efforts into high gear! We have raised just $775 of our $6,000 goal. And this goal is of course if we receive the gift items we need, donated. I'm looking forward to another great project in Ethiopia this year... but I really can't do it without all of you. All donations are welcome... no donation too small.

If you have a child adopted from Ethiopia or are sponsoring a child in Ethiopia, please consider making a donation in their honor. If you have a child currently waiting at one of our orphanages please make a donation to cover your child's holiday. Please join me in stepping up for these kids, showing them the love they deserve, and need.

I still have 10 2014 wall calendars available if you have someone on your Holiday shopping list that is HARD to buy for...

For a $50 donation, I would be happy to send one out to your loved one with a card saying that a donation has been made in their honor to make the holidays brighter for orphans in Ethiopia... Contact me with mailing info, and to check on availability.

These are the updated totals...
Here is my plan for this years festivities... Of course, the more WE can raise, the more WE can do!

I'm still need 'A Few Good Men or WOMEN!' to step up and help with back pack drives, and toy drives, so that I don't have to raise any cash funds for that part of the project! If you are willing to help with one of these areas, message me!

2013 Holiday Project Fundraising KICK-OFF!

WHOA! Where did October Go?!?! I have been a busy girl the past few months... back to school and work... with more hours... Relay For Life is kicking off with me as the Chairperson... Getting the Sponsorship program underway and managing as much as I can from here... and of course the auction! I had planned all along that as part of the Holiday Project each year, from here on out, I would commit $5,000 to the tuition of the girls in Boarding school. I had hoped to knock that all out with the auction proceeds, but we were a little short. I'm going to say that we raised $3,000 with the auction when it was all said and done. A few people sent in a little extra as donations, and we sold several calendars in conjunction with auction wins... So we aren't looking too bad for the Begging Kick-off... but we still have a long way to go.

With JUST EIGHT (YEP, 8!) Short weeks to go till' Christmas, I need to kick the fundraising into gear! I have some Wonderful folks heading up gift drives, to spare the budget, and I am so VERY Thankful for all who have taken on their own fundraising efforts to support the project!

Here is my plan for this years festivities... Of course, the more WE can raise, the more WE can do!

I'm counting on 'A Few Good Men or WOMEN!' to step up and help with ball drives, back pack drives, and toy drives, so that I don't have to raise any cash funds for that part of the project! If you are willing to help with one of these areas, message me!

Thanks folks for your continued support and generosity! This project is a labor of love for me, and I'm so excited to be able to do it each year. 100% of funds raised go directly towards the kids, I ALWAYS fundraise for my portion of the trip expenses on my own.

As a side note, I would really love to develop a lunchtime feeding program at a needy school in the coming year. I'm going to start researching cost, and in December check out some locations that could benefit. I'm always looking for more ways to reach the least of these.... Let's spread the love folks! If you might be interested in helping out with that project, let me know!
